Alfred Noble (1833-96) was a Swedish chemist, engineer and an industrialist. He invented dynamite. His invention of dynamite was a matter of chance only. He also invented gelignite and ballistae. He patented his inventions and left them to his companies. His inventions made him very rich. He never thought that the destructive power of his inventions would encourage war. Noble had great interest in literature. He loved traveling. He remained a bachelor throughout his life. Alfred Nobel established a trust which prompted the cause of peace, science and literature. The trust gives international awards called Nobel Prizes for the same. The value of each prize is about 1 Million US dollars. The Nobel Prize is considered today as the most highly regarded international award.
