Report | Eve easing focusing on its causes and effects.

Staff Correspondent: Eve teasing has become a much talked social disease in Bangladesh nowadays with thousands of women falling victim to it every day. Whenever the issue comes up, men usually comment that modern women are responsible for it. They also pint to the clothes women wear in public places. However, except a few exceptions in the posh zones. women usually war dresses that cannot be blamed for instigating eve teasing. Fourteen female students committed suicides in Bangladesh our locality in the last few months. They were teased, harassed verbally and physically while they were going to educational institutions. All of these unfortunate girls were in uniforms. in most cases men don’t hesitate to show disrespect towards women. Besides, movies and TV often present eve teasing of stalking as a mode of convincing beautiful girls. In reality, men become verbally and physically abusive if girls refuse to accept their indecent proposals. Sometimes they harass girls only to show their machismo. The existing laws need to be revised to address the present situation. Besides social awareness is also a must to check this disease.
