Paragraph on Launch Sinking in The Recent Years
As the season of storms and heavy rains approaches, there is growing concern about accidents during boat launches. Every year, when the weather is stormy, boats sink in the rivers of our country, resulting in loss of human lives. This raises questions about the safety of traveling on our riverways. Despite the expansion of road networks and the presence of railways, the riverways are still heavily used. People prefer this mode of transportation because it is relatively cheaper in terms of travel costs. Additionally, transporting goods by river is the most cost-effective option.
However, the authorities have not taken sufficient measures to ensure the safety of this widely used transportation system. The condition of the inland waterways is chaotic and unregulated. It is common to see dilapidated boats that are overloaded, far beyond their recommended capacities. Many of these boats were not constructed according to proper technical standards to withstand storms. Furthermore, they often lack an adequate number of lifebuoys or other emergency devices. The people operating these boats are not well trained, adding to the risks involved.
It is not surprising, therefore, that travel on the inland waterways has become extremely unsafe. It is crucial to take immediate action to improve the conditions of the riverways. The first step should be to prevent overloading of boats. All river vessels must undergo thorough inspections to determine if they are fit to operate and have the necessary capabilities to withstand storms. Any boats that fail to meet these criteria should be removed from service and taken off the routes.
