Money Cannot Buy Happiness Completing Story

Can't Buy Happiness with Money

A long time ago, there was a really happy shoemaker who spent his days working and singing from morning until night. One day, a rich man who lived nearby came up to him and asked, "How much money do you make in a year?" The shoemaker chuckled and replied, "I don't really count my money like that. It comes and goes quickly, but I'm just glad I can earn it. I work on making shoes every day and that helps me live." The rich man then asked, "Okay, so how much do you earn each day?" The shoemaker thought for a moment and said, "Well, some days more, some days less. On holidays, I might not earn anything, but I still manage to get by." The rich man smiled and said, "You're a happy person as you are, but I want to make you even happier." He gave the shoemaker a big bag of money, about a thousand dollars, and said, "Take this and use it wisely. It should help you for many days to come." The shoemaker had never seen so much money before. He thought it would be enough to cover his needs for food and clothes forever. He took the money home and hid it, but he also hid his happiness. He stopped singing and became sad. He couldn't sleep because he was worried about thieves. He even suspected that everyone who walked into his shop might be trying to figure out his secret. Once, when a cat ran across the floor, he got scared and thought it might be a thief sneaking in.
