Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman- The Father of The Nation

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, also known as Bangabandhu, was a very important leader in the history of Bangladesh. He helped the Bengali people stand up against unfair treatment by the Pakistani government and played a big role in creating the country of Bangladesh in 1971. He led the Awami League and became the first President of Bangladesh during the fight for freedom, and later became the Prime Minister after the country became independent. His oldest daughter, Sheikh Hasina, is now the leader of the Awami League and the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was like the planner of our nation and guided us through difficult times. Before 1971, Bangladesh was not really its own independent country. But Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman gave the country a true sense of freedom. He was a brave leader in many important events: he fought for the Bengali language in 1952, he led democratic movements in 1962, he created a plan for development in 1966, he led a mass movement in 1969, he won a crucial election in 1970, and most importantly, he was a hero in the Liberation War of 1971. He is the one who made Bangladesh independent and is considered the Father of the Country.

Sadly, on August 15, 1975, some junior army officers attacked his home and killed him, his family, and his staff. Only his daughter Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheik Rehana survived because they were in West Germany at the time. This event caused a lot of turmoil in the country. There were rumors that the United States might have been involved in the plot to overthrow him. After many years of political unrest, the situation improved when the army Chief Ziaur Rahman took control in 1977. He became the President and pardoned the people involved in Mujib's death and overthrow.

To honor his memory, the government now observes August 15 as a day of national mourning. On this day every year, people remember the man who became a hero during his lifetime. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will always be remembered by the people of Bangladesh. He was the driving force behind the creation of Bangladesh, and he fought and died for it.
