Dialogue on cultural assault
Dialogue on cultural assault:
Raju: Hey, Rana! How's everything going?
Rana: Not too bad. Are you heading somewhere? Are you busy?
Raju: Not really. Why do you ask?
Rana: I wanted to talk to you about something.
Raju: Sure, go ahead.
Rana: Do you know about cultural assault, the concept of "নিগ্রহের"?
Raju: Yes, I have some understanding of it.
Rana: Please, enlighten me.
Raju: Sure. Firstly, culture encompasses the predefined ideas, norms, values, beliefs, customs, music, language, and behaviors of people living in a specific region.
Rana: Yes, I'm aware of that.
Raju: Also, we have our unique food habits like rice and fish, as well as traditional clothing like longyi, dhuti, shirt, punjabi for men, and saree with blouse for women. Eid, puja, Buddha Purnima, Christmas Day, Victory Day, Pahela Baishakh, Nabanna, and Halkhata are some of our distinctive festivals. All of these together make up our culture and cultural traits.
Rana: I see. But what exactly do you mean by cultural assault?
Raju: Cultural assault refers to the influence of foreign cultures on a society's native culture. Not all alien cultures are harmful; sometimes, they can enrich and improve a native culture. However, there are instances where certain cultures deeply impact others in a harmful way, and that's when it becomes a cultural assault.
Rana: Is there anything else I should know?
Raju: Yes, in today's globalized world, it's challenging to prevent this cultural aggression. Advanced media technologies make it easy for foreign cultures to infiltrate a society, leading to the influence of many cultural elements.
Rana: I understand now. I was a bit confused before, but it's clear to me now. Thank you for explaining.
Raju: You're welcome. Don't worry about it. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
