Durga Puja

Durga Puja is a yearly celebration for Hindu religious people. It's an old custom of Hinduism. The beginning of Durga Puja isn't very clear and isn't written down. This celebration shows the goddess Durga winning against Mahishasura, representing good winning over bad. It happens in the month of Ashwin, which is also known as Bagnoli. But in the regular calendar that most people use, it usually falls between September and October. The date changes each year in the Indian calendar. This celebration lasts for ten days, but the last five days are the most important. People light up and decorate their surroundings a lot during this celebration. They perform special prayers at homes, public places, or temples. Special foods are made to enjoy during these days. People have a lot of fun during this time. Even newspapers have special extra sections about it. There are also special shows on the radio and television.
