Story | A Guilty Conscience Needs No Accuse
Once upon a time, there was a man named Sheikh Moosa. He had a visitor one day who had a bag full of gold coins. While the visitor was sleeping at night, someone stole the money from the bag. The visitor told Sheikh Moosa about the theft. The Sheikh asked his servants if they had taken the money, but they all said they hadn't. As the evening approached, Sheikh Moosa got his donkey ready and went out for a ride. When he returned in the evening, he brought a wooden board and placed it in his tent. Then he gathered all his servants and asked them to go into the tent one by one and place their hand on the board. He told them that the board was a magical board that would turn the hand of the thief black. After all the servants had gone in and out of the tent, the Sheikh made them stand in a line and told them to stretch out their hands. He smelled the hands of all the servants and then grabbed one of them by the collar and ordered him to bring the stolen bag. The servant started crying and trembling with fear, and he brought the bag. In the evening, the visitor asked the Sheikh how he had figured out who the thief was. The Sheikh explained that he had rubbed the board with a nice-smelling lotion. Everyone touched the board except the thief. So the hand of the thief didn't have the smell of the lotion, and he was caught.
