Story | Honesty Pays

There was a poor farmer who had a hard time supporting his family of seven members. He always worried about finding extra money to take care of them. One day, while walking through his field, he found a purse filled with gold that had been dropped by someone passing by. He took it home and showed it to his wife. His wife suggested that they use the money for themselves, or at least a part of it. But the honest farmer believed that honesty was the best way to live, so he decided to try and find the person who had lost the purse.

Finally, the farmer managed to locate the owner of the purse. He went to him and returned the purse. The rich man thanked him but didn't give him any reward. The farmer's wife scolded him for his foolishness, but the farmer remained firm in his belief that honesty was the best policy. 

A few months later, the landlord whose money the farmer had returned called for him. The farmer went to the landlord's house, and the landlord treated him well. Then, to the farmer's surprise, the landlord gave him a generous reward and appointed him as the overseer of his land. The farmer was overjoyed and hurried back home to share the news with his wife and children, showing them that his honesty had been rewarded. Finally, his wife was convinced that honesty was indeed the best policy.
