Composition | Shopping
The word 'Shopping' means going to stores and buying things. Shopping is something everyone has to do in one way or another. Nowadays, shopping is seen as a form of entertainment. It can be divided into two main types: regular shopping and special shopping. Regular shopping refers to buying everyday items we need in our daily lives. On the other hand, special shopping occurs during religious, cultural, or social occasions like Eid-ul Fitr, Eid-ul Azha, puja, and Pahela Baishakh. These occasions require special shopping. There are many different types of shopping based on time, occasion, and other factors.
In rural areas of Bangladesh, people usually do their regular shopping in places called 'Arong' or 'Hat'. 'Arong' is a morning market where people buy vegetables, fish, meat, milk, and other daily necessities. 'Hat' is a weekly market. However, nowadays there are shops in most neighborhoods, so people can shop anytime and anywhere. Urban dwellers go shopping in shopping arcades, shopping centers, or shopping malls. These are collections of shops built together. Some excellent shopping centers in Bangladesh include Bashundhara Shopping Mall, Jamuna Future Mall, Karnafuly Garden City, Rifle Square, and Eastern Plaza. These centers are air-conditioned and have escalators.
Not everyone shops in the same places. Healthy individuals usually shop in air-conditioned modern centers, which can be expensive. Lower to middle-class people cannot afford to shop there, so they usually go to low-cost shopping centers like 'Bangabazar Hawkers' Market, Rajdhani Super Market, and 'Dhanmondi Hawkers' Market. They may also buy things from shops on sidewalks. Shopping is actually a skill, as people need to use different skills depending on where they are shopping. If someone is not careful, they may be deceived while shopping. Despite the presence of modern shopping centers, there are still some problems with shopping, such as mismanagement, snatching, and deception. The authorities should take necessary steps to make shopping more comfortable and secure.
