Story | Why The Sky Is So High

A long time ago, the sky was very close to the ground. It was so close that if people raised their hands, they could touch it. There was a village near the place where the sky almost touched the earth. In this village, there lived an old woman who was all alone. She was busy all day doing her household tasks like cleaning her dishes, scrubbing the floor, and dusting her courtyard.

One day, the woman noticed that her courtyard was very dirty. So she grabbed her broom to clean it. She swept the ground so quickly and forcefully that it caused a big cloud of dust. Within a minute, her house and the entire village were covered in dust, and it even reached the sky. The sky started coughing because of all the dust. It was really hard for the sky, and it felt like it was choking. But the woman kept on sweeping the ground without knowing what was happening.

Suddenly, the sky let out a big sneeze. It was such a loud sneeze that the whole village shook! People ran around in fear, thinking that the sky might fall down. However, the old woman continued sweeping, unaware of what was going on.

After some time, the sky couldn't bear it anymore, and it started crying uncontrollably. Huge tears fell from the sky and landed on the earth, making the courtyard muddy. This was too much for the woman to handle. She lifted her broom and hit the sky, shouting, "Go away, you wet blanket!" The sky was so frightened that it moved higher and higher and promised never to come down again.
