Report | An accident that took place on Dhaka Barisal highway.

Several hundred people carrying placards and photographs of crash victims yesterday staged a road march in the city as part of road safety campaign amid reports of growing road accidents.
Family members and friends of some victims joined the procession organized by cultural personalities and parliamentarians.
The existing law should be amended to ensure adequate punishment of killer drivers, they said at a brief rally held in front of Jatiya Press Club. About 3,000 People are killed in road accidents in the country every year. This makes Bangladesh high on the list of countries with high road crash fatalities. Recently a severe accident took place on Dhaka Barisal highway. About 50 people were killed and many were injured.
All the reason which can cause road crashes are there in Bangladesh. Roads are not spacious enough, drivers are not skilled, vehicles are not always fit and the people are not aware of traffic rules.
The government should intervene immediately with strict traffic laws besides; public awareness campaigns should be conducted frequently to reduce road hazards.
