Composition writing : A Summer Night
A Summer Night
Bangladesh usually has moderate weather, not too hot or cold, except during the rainy season when heavy rain happens often. But sometimes, there's a different summer night. I remember one from last year that I want to tell you about.
It was in the middle of the Bengali month of Jaistha. It had been very hot for a couple of days. The sky was clear, and the heat was intense. There was no breeze at all. This went on for two days until the third day, which was a Sunday, and it was even hotter.
Throughout the day, the sun was shining brightly like the days before. We felt very thirsty and tried to cool down with cold water, ice-cream, and cold drinks, but nothing worked. As the evening came, the sun set, but the atmosphere was still burning.
I decided to have an early dinner so I could take a walk in the nearby field and escape the heat. Many others were already there, sitting on the grass. But even at around 10 p.m., we had to go back to our rooms to sleep. However, the little relief we felt outside vanished as soon as we entered the rooms.
I tried to sleep but couldn't. Then I had an idea. I took my towel and went to the nearby pond. I poured water on my head and wiped my body with the wet towel. Many others from our hostel did the same. Some of us sat by the pond, trying to have some fun and music, but we all felt so tired that nothing could make us feel better.
The time passed slowly until midnight. Suddenly, the heat started to decrease, and a wonderful breeze came from the north-west. We looked up and saw that clouds had covered the sky. The breeze turned into a strong wind, and soon it became a storm. First, there was light rain, then heavy rain. We had already gone inside and closed our doors and windows. We lay on our beds, finally able to sleep.
I fell asleep quickly after my head touched the pillow. When I woke up the next morning, it was quite cold, and I had wrapped myself in my bedsheet.
