The first day of the Bangla New Year is called Pahela Baishakh. We celebrate this day with old customs and traditions. The first event of the day starts at Ramna Batamul, organized by a cultural group called 'Chhayanat.' In rural areas, people also have traditional games, plays, and cultural events all over the country. Many people gather in certain places to celebrate. These places are decorated nicely and look festive. People are in a happy and festive mood. In some areas, there are also fairs that get very busy, but people enjoy them a lot.
Shop owners start new account books, and city people celebrate this tradition. They wear traditional clothes and take part in cultural events organized by different cultural groups. People walk in colorful parades with decorations, signs, posters, banners, and masks. Young people seem to enjoy celebrating this day more. They say "Happy New Year" to each other and join in music and dancing. This day is very important for Bangladeshis and has a lot of meaning.
