The International Mother Language Day/ The Shaheed Day/ The 21st February || Composition
A special day in Bangladesh's history is February 21st. We also call it Shaheed Dibash. It reminds us of something important called the 'Language Movement,' which was part of our fight for freedom.
Back in 1952, on this day, some brave people from our country gave up their lives for our language, Bangla. The rulers of Pakistan wanted to make 'Urdu' the main language of East Pakistan. But the Bengalis didn't agree with that idea. On February 21, 1952, students from Dhaka University walked together, and the police shot at them. Rafiq, Jabbar, Salam, Barkat, and many others died. That's why we remember February 21 as 'Shaheed Day.'
On this day, we go to the Shaheed Minar without wearing shoes and put flowers there to honor the people who died for us. We wear black badges and sing a song, "Amar Bhayer Raktay Rangano Akusey February." Bangladesh Betar and different TV channels show different things. The government, groups, and schools plan different activities to enjoy the day.
In 1999, UNESCO said that this day is important and named it 'International Mother Language Day.' After that, people all around the world started celebrating it.
It's a big deal for our country and makes us really proud.
