What is a Composition? Types of Composition

What's a Composition?

A composition is like a special piece of writing where you talk a lot about one main idea. This main idea is like the big topic you're going to write about. Just like a paragraph, a good composition follows a basic plan.

How a Composition is Set Up

A composition is made up of three main parts: the start, the middle, and the end.

Starting Your Composition

The beginning of your composition is the start. It's like the first paragraph, and it's really important because it catches people's interest. You need to say what your whole writing is about, just like when a paragraph has its main point. It's usually just one sentence.

The Start: This is where you say what your composition is about and make it clear.

Writing the Middle of Your Composition

The middle of your composition has three or four parts in a short composition. Each part talks only about one idea. So, if your composition is around 200 words, you can have three or four main thoughts. But remember, all these parts should help the main idea you started with. In the middle, you tell, explain, and think about the main idea.

To do the middle part:

A. Write one thing to help your main idea in one part.
B. Each part needs a starting sentence, a middle part, and an end.
C. Explain your idea with good examples and reasons.

Ending Your Composition

The end is where you finish your composition and sum up the big idea.

The difference between the start and the end:
A. The start talks about what you'll write.
B. The end says what you've already written.

Different Kinds of Compositions

Compositions can be different, but the main kinds are:

1. Storytelling: This kind tells a story or shows what happened in order. It tells you about events and focuses on "what happened" and "how it happened." It can be about old events or people's lives. It answers questions like who, what, when, where, and how.

2. Describing: This kind talks a lot about a person, place, or thing. It helps you imagine things by using words for seeing, smelling, hearing, touching, and tasting. It says a lot about a place, event, person, or thing and how they feel to our senses.

3. Convincing: This kind has arguments where writers give reasons to prove their points. They put forward reasons one by one, with good ideas to support them.

4. Informative/Explaining: This kind helps you learn facts or ideas and how things work. It gives you information and makes hard ideas easier to understand.
