Tragedy in Shefali's Life Story
There was a kind girl named Shefali who was just 16 years old. She came from a poor family in a faraway village. Her dad struggled to earn enough money, and her mom took care of the household. She had two older sisters and a younger brother. Her sisters were already married.
As Shefali got older, her parents became worried about finding a husband for her. To make this happen, they sold a part of their land and got 25,000 taka. They used this money to arrange a marriage for Shefali with a man who was 26 years old. As part of the marriage agreement, they promised to give the groom 20,000 taka as a dowry, with half of it paid in advance. They sorted out all the arrangements, but sadly, the marriage didn't turn out well.
Her husband didn't treat Shefali kindly, and her in-laws were mean to her too. They even accused her family of not giving the full dowry that was promised. Some of the money they were supposed to give was missing. They found out that the person who had helped arrange the marriage had taken advantage of them. But Shefali's dad couldn't afford to give more money because he didn't have enough.
Because of this, Shefali had to go back to her family and the marriage was ended with a divorce.
