A long time ago, a man named Robert Bruce was the leader of Scotland. During that time, Scotland was controlled by England. Robert Bruce really wanted his country to be free, so he fought against a man named Edward I from England. He had six battles with English soldiers, but each time he lost. This made him feel sad, and he gave up believing he could win. Eventually, he lost his position as leader and had to run away to stay safe.

One day, while hiding in a cave in a forest, he saw a spider trying to climb a steep cave wall. The spider fell down many times, but it didn't give up. On its seventh try, it finally reached the top. This made Bruce feel better and more hopeful. He got his soldiers together and led them in a fight against England. This time, he beat the English army and made Scotland free.
