The fox and the crow short story
Once upon a time, there was a crow living in a tree near a village. One morning, the crow snatched a piece of cheese from a window and flew up to a high tree with it. By coincidence, a fox happened to meet the crow. The fox had his eye on that piece of cheese and thought about how to get it using clever words.
"Hello there! Your wings are so beautiful, and your eyes shine brightly! Your neck is so graceful, and your voice is lovely. I really want to hear your voice, dear crow. You're like the queen of all the birds."
The crow felt happy because of the nice things the fox said and was excited to surprise the fox with her voice. As she opened her beak to sing, the cheese fell from her mouth, and the fox quickly snatched it up. He walked away, noticing that while he had praised her appearance, he hadn't said anything about her intelligence.
Moral: Giving compliments just to get something in return is not honest. People who hear such compliments usually expect to have to give something valuable in exchange.
