Dowry Arrangement । যৌতুক প্রথা । Paragraph-Writing ।
The dowry system is like a shameful part of our country's life. It's a way of not treating women well and with respect. According to the Dowry Prohibition Act of 1980 in Bangladesh, dowry means when parents give money, things like jewelry, furniture, and property to the groom as a gift for their daughter's future happiness and comfort. Whether it's given because the groom asks for it or because it's seen as necessary for a suitable marriage, it's all called dowry. Dowry has been around for a very long time. In Hindu families, since daughters don't inherit property, fathers try to give them gifts when they get married. This is because Muslim families see Hindu families doing it. While Muslim girls can inherit from their fathers, Muslim boys still ask for dowry like Hindus. Rich people might see dowry as fancy, but it's a huge problem for poor fathers. If the dowry isn't enough, the bride might be mistreated. Many women endure this mistreatment, and some even have to leave their husband's house and go back to their parents'. Sadly, some women even end their own lives to escape the pain. Every year, around 6,000 women die, 4,000 become disabled, and nearly 14,000 get divorced because of dowry in our country. The dowry tradition is fading away in richer communities. Groups that want progress and women's rights are working to stop dowry. But it's still happening. Sometimes even after marriage, people demand dowry later. We need to make sure people understand that this is a problem. We should show them through pictures and news in newspapers and on TV. If Muslims follow their religion's teachings and work together, we can get rid of the bad dowry tradition in our country.
