Essay: My Favorite Poet (Allama Iqbal)
Allama Iqbal was born in Sialkot in 1877. He learned in his hometown and then in Lahore. He did very well in his studies. He went to England and came back. He worked as a lawyer, but he loved poetry more. He wanted to help Muslims with his poems.
Iqbal was a great poet. Even his poems for children were famous. His important books are Bang-e-Dara, Bal-e-Gibreel, Zarb-e-Kaleem, Peyam-e-Mashriq, Asrar-e-Khudi, and Javed Name. The first two are liked a lot. Bang-e-Dara has poems about his love for his country.
But later he understood that Islam doesn't like just one country. This made him think in a new way. He started writing in Persian to reach more people. But he saw that most people in India can't understand Persian, so he wrote in Urdu again. His best work is Bal-e-Gibreel.
His books are very good. His poems are the best in Urdu. He writes about knowing yourself, and his poems make us feel strong against bad things. His words and thoughts are beautiful. He's much more important to us than Shakespeare is to English people.
