Composition | A Fun Fair
Our school had a special event called a food-and-fun fair to raise money for our building fund. It took place from September 23rd to September 25th last year. We started preparing for the fair weeks in advance. We marked out spaces for different stalls a month before. We formed groups of students and teachers to run these stalls and explained their duties and responsibilities to them. We made signs to advertise the event, both by writing them by hand and printing them. We also converted some wooden buildings to accommodate the stalls. We asked the National Electricity Board for permission to use more electricity, and we hired local contractors to make the necessary arrangements. We sent teachers and students out to collect donations, either money or things we could sell. By September 22nd, we finished all the preparations for the fair.
On the afternoon of September 23rd, groups of students, some of them dressed in fancy clothes, went around town in open cars and trucks, inviting people to come to the fair and spend money to support our building fund. This last-minute advertising campaign was very successful.
At 7 o'clock that evening, the Chief Education Officer officially opened the fair. He was a big help in organizing the event.
We had an exhibition of art and handwork in four classrooms. Items for the exhibition came from almost every class. Most of the things on display were for sale, and even though they were expensive, many generous people bought a few. We made a lot of money from the sales.
The food stalls were also popular and made a good amount of money. But the most exciting part of the fair was the amusement stalls. These stalls offered different games of luck or skill, and there was a friendly competition among the people running them. Games like "Ringing the Duck," "Throwing the Tins," "Wheel of Fortune," and "Duck Me" (which was inspired by a famous funny movie called "Three Ring Circus") were very popular. There was a lot of noise and activity at each stall. The prizes offered were attractive, and the organizers did a great job of encouraging visitors to try their luck or skill, even those who usually don't like spending money.
The weather was nice throughout the fair, so many people were able to come and visit every day.
