Composition | A Morning Walk

I have to wake up very early to prepare for school, so I can't go for a morning walk every day. I can only do it on Sundays or other holidays.

Last Sunday, I left my house early in the morning. It was still very dark outside. I had my favorite walking stick in my hand and my pet dog, Zero, was following me. Only a few shops on my street were open, and most of them were restaurants. There weren't many customers in them either. I noticed groups of swallows resting on the electric wires above, but they didn't move at all. It was quite different from the noisy daytime when the streets are filled with cars and crowded with people.

As we reached the outskirts of the town, the desolate scene became even worse. The quietness of a graveyard was all around, with big beautiful houses on both sides of the road. The only living creatures awake seemed to be the watch-dogs, and some of them happily greeted Zero. It showed that Zero must have visited this part of the town frequently.

When we approached the railway line near our town, I saw the morning train leaving the local station. I could have crossed the tracks before it arrived where I was standing, but I decided to wait and watch it pass by. It was unlike any train I had ever seen. I couldn't see any passengers sticking their heads out of the windows to enjoy the morning view. There were no curious young people standing on the footboards either. Most of the windows were closed, and even the open ones didn't reveal any signs of life inside.

But soon after, the road became crowded with people walking or riding bicycles. Most of them were rubber tappers, miners, and farmers on their way to work. Others were carrying things to sell at the local market or going there to buy things they needed.

By the time I reached the place where I usually do my deep breathing exercises on Sundays, it was dawn. I stood facing the rising sun for a few seconds and admired its beauty. It looked like a red fireball as it came up from behind a hill. Before starting my exercises, I walked on the dew-covered grass, which felt very refreshing.

The sun was quite high in the sky when I finished my breathing exercises and started heading home. I saw many people out for a walk. I knew what they had missed, and for a moment, I felt sorry for them. But then I realized they were still better off than many others who were sound asleep at home. It's better to be late than never go for a walk at all.
