Composition | A Quarrel In My Street
It's natural for people who live close to each other to argue sometimes, just like it's good for them to live peacefully and get along. But good neighbors choose peace and friendship more often than arguments and fights.
Yesterday, there was a big argument in the street where I live. A little boy was playing with a ball. He would throw it and chase after it, trying to catch it. Sometimes, he would bounce it off the ground and watch it go high above his head. Our neighbor's dog was also running around in the street. When the dog saw the boy chasing the ball, it decided to join in the fun. But as soon as the dog approached the boy, he got scared and started crying. His mother came out of the house and saw that the dog had frightened her son. She got angry and started cursing all the stray dogs and their owners who don't take care of them.
This wasn't a direct attack, but the lady who owned the dog knew who the anger was really directed at. She started cursing all the parents who couldn't keep their children from wandering into the streets. Feeling defeated in her indirect approach, the first woman started yelling and cursing the other woman with all the mean words she knew. I wonder if any historian, from the past or present, could accurately describe the back-and-forth of insults and arguments that took place.
When the two women had yelled themselves out, the first woman's husband called her back and said something rude and inappropriate about the other woman. This was too much for the other woman's husband to ignore. He came out of the house, cursing the other man for getting involved in a fight between their wives, and threatened to hit him. Not afraid of this threat, the other man brought out his shotgun and said, "I'll shoot your dog and then shoot you for causing all this trouble." The other man, while running back to get his own gun, replied, "If you shoot my dog, I'll shoot your son."
Knowing their husbands' tempers well, the two women decided to stop the argument right away. They each tried to push their husbands back and take the guns away, begging them not to use violence. One woman didn't want to see her son get shot, and the other couldn't bear the thought of her husband being arrested or imprisoned for murder.
The argument ended when everyone went back inside their homes.
