The invention of the airplane made travel and transportation very fast. Now, you can fly halfway around the world in just one day. You can go to a foreign country, do your business there, and return home in a nearby town. The airplane has made the world a small place.
In the past, people couldn't travel across the thick forests in Central Africa and South America. These forests were like impassable barriers between different parts of the continents. But now, we can fly over them, and we don't even need to think about building roads or railways through them. Before, many lives were lost, and a lot of wealth was wasted before two men reached the top of Mount Everest. Now, planes can fly even higher than Mount Everest effortlessly, carrying loads of people.
In ancient times, many people died of thirst and hunger during droughts or famines. There was usually enough food and water within a few hundred miles of the affected areas, but who would have thought of traveling that far? Those who were brave enough to try died on the way. People who were stranded during floods also died from lack of food and water. With airplanes, the threat of famine can be quickly and effectively dealt with.
In some countries, like Australia, they use airplanes to create artificial rain. The problem of locusts damaging crops and plants in many countries has been greatly reduced with the use of airplanes. Planes are widely used for detecting minerals underground. Fishermen on the high seas use planes on trawlers to find schools of fish.
A nation's military superiority now depends a lot on its air power. Airplanes are also used for patrolling borders and countering smuggling. Helicopters are used to reach places without proper landing fields for larger planes, and they can transport people who need medical attention directly to a hospital.
But not everything about airplanes is good. If a car's engine has trouble, it can be fixed by the roadside, but if an airplane's engine fails during flight, the plane is likely to crash, causing the loss of many lives. Some adventurous people use airplanes for smuggling illegal goods into different countries. Just as planes can prevent foreigners from entering a country, they can also bring in foreign invaders.
Airplanes have greatly increased the destructive power of war. In the past, wars didn't claim as many lives or destroy as much property as they do now. Random bombings from the air can cause massive destruction. So far, only two nuclear bombs have been used in war, and both of them were dropped from airplanes.
It's clear that an airplane can be used for both construction and destruction. Its use or misuse depends entirely on humans. If used wisely and responsibly, it brings happiness and comfort. But if humans want to destroy their own world, we shouldn't blame the airplane. It's just an obedient servant, always ready at its master's command.
