Story | Uneasy Lies The Head That Wear Crown
Once there was a rich man who lived in a city. He had a neighbor who was a poor shoemaker. The shoemaker worked hard during the day and sang happily late at night. The rich man became jealous of the shoemaker's happiness and one day called him over. He said, "Even though you're poor, you seem to enjoy life more than I do. Can you tell me why?" The shoemaker replied, "Sir, I may be poor, but I'm happy because I have no worries. I spend what I earn and trust in God for the future. You, on the other hand, are rich but you constantly worry about your wealth, which makes you less happy."
To test the truth of the shoemaker's words, the rich man gave him a bag full of gold coins. The shoemaker took the bag home and burned it in a room. However, after doing this, he began to worry about the safety of the money. He couldn't work with his full focus and couldn't sleep well because he feared the bag might be stolen. The worry started to affect his health. So, he took the bag of money back to the rich man and said, "This money has taken away my contentment and peaceful life. Please take it back so I can regain my happiness and joy." From then on, he remained cheerful and happy, just as he was before receiving the money.
