Or,
The Main Food of the People of Bangladesh: Rice

Rice is the main food in Bangladesh, India, and other countries in Southeast Asia. Rice comes from paddy, which grows in wet soil and needs water.

In our country, there are four kinds of rice: Aus, Aman, Boro, and IRRI. Aus is planted in Falgoon and harvested in late Baishakh. Boro is planted in Magh and harvested in Chaitra, growing well in low and marshy lands. Aman is planted in Ashar and harvested in Kartik, Agrahayan, and early Poush. IRRI can be planted at any time and harvested within sixty to seventy days from planting.

There are two ways to grow paddy: sowing and transplanting. In both cases, the fields are plowed, harrowed, and fertilized well.

When paddy is ripe, the grains are separated from the hay. Then, by husking paddy, we get rice. Rice from paddy can be two types: Atap and boiled. Atap rice is made when paddy is dried and husked. Boiled rice is made by boiling paddy first, then drying and husking it.

Rice is our main food. We make parched rice, flattened rice, and various kinds of cakes from rice.

We should try not to use chemical fertilizers and pesticides in rice fields as they can be harmful. However, we should still grow more rice.
