Precautions to be taken while writing a composition | Study Table

Tips for Writing a Composition:

Writing a composition is an important part of English exams. You'll need to create a piece of writing that's around 350 words long. The goal is to show that you can express yourself clearly and correctly in English. Your composition should make sense and be well-organized. Even if your writing is creative, you'll get a lower score if there are grammar mistakes.

So, here are some important things to remember when writing a good composition:

1. Answer everything in the question:

Some composition topics have different parts. When you write, make sure you talk about all the parts of the question. Take enough time for each part.

2. Make sure your writing fits the topic:

Find the main words in the topic. For example, if it says "Talk about the main reasons for accidents," don't talk about the effects of accidents. People sometimes write about the wrong thing because they don't understand the topic. Choose a topic you know about.

3. Don't just use things you've memorized:

Composition questions are special and need your own ideas. Everyone's writing about the topic can be different. No question says, "Write everything you know." Using things you've memorized or forcing in ideas won't work.

4. Make your composition the right length:

1. Count how many words are in a line (usually 8 to 10 words).

2. You need to write 300-350 words in about 30 minutes. Don't count words, count lines.

3. Practice writing pieces that are the right length.

5. Use simple English:

English is best when it's simple. Use short, normal words, not long or rare ones. Avoid very long sentences that confuse people. Use single words instead of long phrases, to show you know lots of words.

6. Write neatly:

People with neat handwriting do better than those with messy handwriting. Bad handwriting looks like you're not trying.

7. Read a lot:

The best way to get better at English is to read a lot.

1. Try reading modern books like mysteries, science fiction, romance, or adventure stories. Reading newspapers and good magazines helps, too.

2. Reading a lot helps you learn new words and how to use words correctly.

3. Try to read at least twenty pages every day.

4. Be patient. You won't get much better in a week. After two or three months of reading a lot, your English will definitely get better.
