Composition | International Mother Language Day

We are really happy because UNESCO announced that February 21st is now International Mother Language Day. It's a big honor for us and we can't find the right words to express how excited we are.

February 21st, also known as Martyr's Day, is special because no other country has sacrificed lives and endured hardships to protect their native language like we have. Recognizing the importance of the language movement, UNESCO decided to declare February 21st as International Mother Language Day, and we are proud of it.

This decision has had a huge impact in Bangladesh. As soon as the news reached us, political parties and students took to the streets to celebrate this occasion.

There are around 4,000 official languages in the world, but Bengali is spoken by approximately 220 million people, making it one of the most widely spoken languages. While English, French, Spanish, Chinese, and Arabic are dominant languages globally, Bengali has risen to the top because it represents the true status of all other languages.

On International Mother Language Day, we promise to improve our language. We want to modernize sentence structures and spelling patterns. We should also develop strategies to make Bengali an easy language for foreigners to learn.
